The white & black threads which are used here to connect the picture shows the technique of tie and dye through which the final product patola gets its colour. As the black colour is used in motifs to give them a attractive look. So, same in this board the background is black to highlight all the picture.

Patan Patola has a special history. Year back in 1175 AD Solanki Rajputs were ruling Gujarat, Malwa, and Southern Rasjasthan. During those days weavers, singers or worker came to king for employment. kumarpal was follower of jain religion and it is said that silk is the purest form acoording to jainism. They adopted it as one of the symbol of jainism. As a follower he also started wearing the purest silk which has a other name Patola. He used to wear it at the time of worship or any special ocassion. The Patola worn by King Kumarpal used to be importes from jalanpur. One day the temple priest stop Kuamrpal from entering the temple by saying that his clothes was "IMPURE". So, King Kumarpal inquire, After this he finds that the salvi weavers used to weave Patola in Jalanpur, and the king of Jalanpur was exporting the fabric after first using them as bedspreads, For this reason Kumarpal defeated the King of Jalnpur. So, the salvi weavers came to Gujarat in search of work. About 700 weavers from the salvi caste came to the court of Raja Kuamrpal for employment. Salvi weavers also wanted work and King needed fabric that was woven by them. So, the King gave them work to weave Patola.
